Shepherd Group backs York Flood Appeal and fund-raising concert

Shepherd Group has donated £15,000 to the York Flood Appeal to help local people affected by the recent devastating floods.

The family business, which last year celebrated its 125th anniversary, comprises Portakabin Group, Portastor and Portasilo.

Patrick Shepherd, Deputy Chairman of Shepherd Group, said: “As a major employer and family business which has been at the heart of York for more than 125 years, Shepherd Group wants to help those in our community whose homes and lives have been devastated by the floods. We have been impressed by the spirit and resolve of all those who are assisting the relief effort and hope this £15,000 donation to the York Flood Appeal will help to support this valuable work."

Shepherd Group is also sponsoring ‘Hold Back the River’ a fund-raising concert for the York Flood Appeal which is being staged at the Barbican in York on Sunday 6 March. The event will include performances by the Shepherd Group Concert Brass Band, the York Civic Youth Choir, Archies Boys Aloud, the Steve Cassidy Band, The Grand Old Uke of York, Dan Webster and Rebecca Newman, plus a range of additional acts.

The concert, organised on behalf of the York Disaster Fund and supported by York Barbican, is sponsored by the Shepherd Group.

Jan Garrill, Chief executive of Two Ridings Community Foundation said: “The donation from the Shepherd Group to the York Flood Appeal is fantastic support from a local York business. The flood appeal has nearly reached half a million pounds and that is amazing testament to the generosity of people from York and beyond.
